The Blackmail Snaps are a relatively new band, formed in 2014 in the North of England. The trio have set their minds to playing classic old school Hard Rock and Metal.

It is clear that The Blackmail Snaps have gone back in time to the glorious 80’s to create a sound that involves an impressive blend of styles ranging from Thin Lizzy, Raven, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, UFO and many others. listening to this ten track album, ‘When One Door Closes, Smash A Window’ I immediately become caught up in a series of flashbacks to my youth. Tracks like Soul Connection, remind me of the first time I heard Van Halen way back in ’82, or Disconnected, reminisces Blue Oyster Cult. The clever thing about this album is, that none of the songs are actually meant to be covers of any band in particular, they just seem to roll with a vibe that certain bands had back in the day.

The guitar work is awesome, excellent riffing and the solos are just incredible, which is what one can expect from Rich Davenport, for those who don’t know the name, he has worked with NWOBHM bashers Atomkraft. The lyrical content is typically British, tongue in cheek, but also to the point when needed. The drums and bass perform a solid backbone to keep the tracks ticking over like a well oiled machine.

If, like me you prefer the old school 80’s style classic Metal, then you’ll certainly enjoy this album. There is also a free download availble for a few tracks on their website
